A Home Revived
Welcome to Haus Studio’s inaugural blog post! With so many projects in the books, we wanted to start sharing a monthly behind-the-scenes look at our favorites.
Our very first spotlight is being cast on a beautiful project we call Modern Revival. It’s one of our favorite whole-home renovations that we just know will stand the test of time. Let’s get into the journey of this project!
The Modern Revival kitchen with a view of the stunning stone fireplace.
The couple who lives here came to us, desperate for an option to open up their outdated kitchen. They’d been told over and over by other companies that in order to make their kitchen space feel larger, they would need to tack on an addition to the home. We took one look at the space, and knew that it wasn’t more square footage that they needed–it was a creative eye.
Our first order of business was to slightly change the layout of the room. We opened up a hall closet and let the kitchen absorb it as additional space. An awkwardly situated fireplace was then moved to an adjacent angled wall to give the kitchen more room to breathe.
We were inspired by a “modern classic” sort of feel for this renovation, and reorganizing the footprint of the kitchen and living room areas allowed us to make good on that inspiration. We recrafted the old fireplace into a Cambria-adorned floating hearth, complete with a moody slatted wall and underlighting. The kitchen itself is a statement piece, outfitted with sleek black appliances (yes, that is a black stainless steel refrigerator), striking quartz above the range and atop a massive four-seater island, and a beautiful custom-stain Maple hood.
When the family saw how gorgeous their new kitchen would be, they asked if we could extend our vision to the front sitting room. The answer was a resounding “yes!” We added a slatted wall reminiscent of that lovely fireplace, quartz-clad wet bar with a beverage fridge, and custom-stain cabinetry and open shelving. To creatively define the kitchen and sitting room spaces, we split a beautiful chevron French Oak floor with the kitchen’s quarter-sawn White Oak.
We did say this was a whole-home reno, didn’t we? Believe it or not, during our remodel of the couple’s kitchen, living room, and front sitting room, their newly redesigned basement flooded. Of course, we were happy to create a new underground respite for these wonderful clients. We modernized the space with a new wet bar and stunning wallpapered, open wine cellar. Everything primed for endless entertaining.
We still have to do a double take when we catch a glimpse of this project!
We hope you enjoyed this little window into the process of crafting Modern Revival. Stay tuned for next month’s feature!
