Crafting A Simple Sanctuary

This month’s project is called Scandinavian Sanctuary for good reason. The minimal, textural style was our greatest inspiration for the reimagination of this space. Come learn more about what it took to take this kitchen from dark and unbalanced to perfect harmony.

Our first instinct was to remove the preexisting tile in the space–and, wow, was there a lot of it! Tile ran from the countertop to the ceiling above, and, down below, there were floors made of stacked slab and tile. The wall tile was replaced with an organic exposed brick painted white to counteract low ceilings and lack of windows.

The floors were given a gorgeous, Belle Harbor Wire Brushed French Oak treatment for that extra touch of brightness.

When we began removing walls to open up the area to the rest of the home, we ran into some hidden wiring, gas lines, and HVAC. Unexpected to say the least!

We called in our trusted HVAC and electrical partners to get the home up to snuff, then resumed our renovation by breaking down two walls that separated the kitchen from a less-than-functional back room and turning it into an extra storage and prep space.

We replaced upper cabinets in the kitchen with open shelving, and a White Oak, frameless pantry–a style that extends to the stunning appliance wall, home to a paneled fridge and double oven.

The overall effect is better than we (and the homeowners) could have imagined!
